Hydrogen Energy
Hydrogen Energy is a term for electricity that is obtained by using hydrogen as a fuel in fuel cells. Hydrogen economy is based on hydrogen as an ecological fuel, unlike fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) which are environmentally unacceptable. The hydrogen is 100% safe for nature.
Hydrogen technology involves the application of the following devices and procedures:
- Electrolyser as a device for the production of hydrogen by electrolysis of water
- Storage and transportation of hydrogen
- Fuel Cell as an electric generator that uses hydrogen as a fuel stored in a special cartridge and oxygen from the air, while only the water is additionally produced.
It is expected that the hydrogen in the near future, predominantly will be used for driving electric vehicles such as cars, buses and trucks. The electric car can use as an energy source either battery with very high capacity or fuel cell with a hydrogen tank and the hydrogen solution is economically much better.
It is good to know that about 9 liters of water is consumed for the production of 1 kg of hydrogen, and that 1 kg of hydrogen is sufficient for 100 km drive by car.
